Bunk beds are also known as double-deck beds. Two beds stacked one on top of the other on a specially designed bed frame. These beds are mostly used for children rooms. However they can also be used to save space, providing you with two beds within the space of one and as such they are handy for siblings who share bedrooms or even when a guest is staying over. Many households use it as a guest bed nowadays.

Advantages of using bunk beds
- Modern day bunk beds are available with attached drawers, desks, shelves and extra storage space which will provide you with some additional space. As a result no extra amount of money needs to be spent to get separate cupboards and clothing closets.
- Imagine all the space you save and create if you can get rid of an extra desk or toy chest. By getting a bunk bed, you can have everything in just one unit.
- Keeping a bunk bed at home makes your child learn to be more organized because everything is just within arm’s reach and it will be easier for them to keep their things in the right place.
- They provide children with a sense of security as the siblings stay closer, nurturing a better relationship between them.
- Another advantage of bunk beds is that they improve your chlidren’s creativity and imagination. Many children around the world are known to let their imagination run wild and turn their bunk beds into various concepts like castles, forts, pirate ships, spaceships and many more.
Disadvantages of bunk beds
- A very common disadvantage is that instead of fostering better sibling relationships, having a bunk bed at home at times may crate disputes and arguments between siblings as to who is going to sleep at the top. The best solution for this is to have a “bunk bed timetable” for your children so that both children have to sleep on either of the beds at one time or another.
- Another common fault seen in bunk beds is that many of them are not as sturdy as they claim to be. It is true that there have been some accidents in the past where children have faced minor injuries due to unsteady bunk beds. However the risks of such accidents happening are fewer if the bed is made out of hard and strong material with proper attachments so that the weight of the top bed is held easily.
With careful screening and wise decisions you can always avoid such drawbacks.
Types of bunk beds
- Standard Bunk Bed: They are traditional bunk beds having essentially two beds, one stacked on top of the other.
- Futon Bunk Bed: This type of bunk bed had a bed at the top and on the bottom there is a futon or something similar to a couch. This arrangement is great not only for an enhanced look of the room but also if you need a bed and a futon/couch in your room and you just don’t have the space.
- Loft Bunk Beds: Loft bunk beds are basically a top bunk with no bottom bunk. The area below is empty. It is like taking your bed and raising it 5 feet off the ground. The empty space can be effectively used to put a desk, dresser, or other type of storage.
- Twin Over Full: This is the traditional standard bunk bed, however the bottom bed is a full size, i.e., it is larger than the typical twin size mattress on top.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
